Hostel “Shepherds’ Cottage”
Korbielów is a big tourist village situated in the valley of the Glinny creek, spanning from the height of 560 to 630 m above sea level. The valley separates the Jałowiec Range from the group of Pilsko, whose massif hovers right above the village to the west. At the turn of the 16th century Wallachian shepherds arrived here. This is when the villages of Korbielów, Sopotnia Wielka, and Sopotnia Mała came into being. On the slopes of Pilsko there are ski resorts operating, which makes Korbielów an attractive tourist destination, particularly popular among winter sports fans, including ski tourers.
Initially, the hostel, situated at the altitude of 630 m above sea level, was a private villa called “Smrek”. In 1967 the building, dating back to 1939, was purchased by the Polish Tourist Society Branch in Żywiec and converted into a hostel. After a thorough renovation, the facility provided extra accommodation space administered by the nearby Polish Tourist Society (PTTK) Travel Lodge “At the Crossroads”. Today, the facility offers 18 beds in 2-, 4-, and 6-bed rooms, a dining room, and a buffet. Below the hostel, at the outlet of the Buczynka valley, there is a starting point of the trails leading to Pilsko through the Miziowa Meadow and the blue trail to the Przysłopy Pass.
