Hostel Stożek
Stożek is situated in the Czantoria Range of the Silesian Beskids [Beskid Śląski] and is the third highest mountain in the watershed of the Vistula and the Oder, after Wielka Czantoria and Kiczory. If offers a view of the Vistula valley, the ridge of the Wisła Range [Pasmo Wiślańskie] with Skrzyczne and Barania Góra, the Żywiec Beskids [Beskid Żywiecki], and with good visibility the view of the Tatras [Tatry], as well. The peak is intersected by the Main Beskid Trail, running from Ustroń in the Silesian Beskids [Beskid Śląski] to Wołosate in the Bieszczady Mountains.
The building of the hostel is located below the peak of Wielki Stożek, right at the ridge of the range of Czantoria and Stożek, which at the same time constitutes the Polish-Czech border. It is the oldest Polish hostel in the Beskids [Beskidy] (older hostels belonged to Beskidenverein). The decision concerning its construction was made by the Board of the Polish Tourist Society Branch in Cieszyn in 1919. Construction works were launched in May 1920, and the opening ceremony was held on 9 July 1922. The hostel has been modernised numerous times. The most recent thorough renovation took place in the 1960s. The facility offers 72 beds, a glazed dining room for over 100 people, a summer garden, a richly stocked buffet, a sauna, satellite TV, table tennis. By prior agreement, it is also possible to have a bonfire or a disco here.
